Cayenna Ponchione in focus

Our new Associate Conductor has a busy life in Oxford – from academic researcher to conductor, from playing Marimba (her specialist percussion instrument) to organising Academic conferences on Conducting, from researching aspects of Historically Informed Practice (HIP) in 19th Century music, to organising trips to help detainees in Campsfield House Immigration Removal Centre, from commissioning new pieces in the ‘Womens WaterWork’ series, to writing her own compositions for percussion.

Visit to Kabul

The wonderfully talented Cayenna Ponchione has just left for a week in Kabul, where she can work on the ground to help bring the Afghan Women’s Orchestra to Oxford next March.  She is staying with Peymana Assad (Councillor for Harrow, recently seen at our Refugee Week event at Somerville).  This trip will primarily focussed on meeting the young women of the orchestra, and doing some fundraising in Afghanistan.

Da Capo orchestra pledges support for Afghan project

Da Capo Orchestra – Symphonic holidays – has pledged to support our Afghan Womens Orchestra project with the proceeds of a fundraising concert in Cefalu on 13 October. Last year they raised 420E to support the Youth Orchestra of Balanyá, a village in the highlands of Guatemala.
