The Orchestra of St. John’s Ensemble
We are delighted to announce the creation of a new chamber ensemble – the Orchestra of St. John’s Ensemble (OSJE). Launched in September 2026, the OSJE builds on our rich history and complements our existing concert programme and Music for Autism.
The idea for the OSJE grew out of the long-standing artistic partnership between violinist and OSJ leader Jan Schmolck, and keyboard player Howard Moody. In broadening the Orchestra’s scope and repertoire, OSJE looks forward to developing creative opportunities for our musicians, to forging new artistic collaborations and building our audiences.
A highlight of the OSJE’s activity is a three-year partnership with the University of Oxford Music Faculty. This programme of workshops, masterclasses and coaching has been designed to inspire musical exploration and complement academic studies.
Over its first three years, the Ensemble’s programming will focus on seminal chamber works by Bach, Beethoven and Schubert, interwoven with music by living composers and new commissions.
