Review of concert for The Music Therapy Charity – Orchestra of St John's | Taking classical music out into the community

Review of concert for The Music Therapy Charity

Our annual fundraising concert on November 20th 2025 as a huge success in raising the profile of The Music Therapy Charity.

Held at St John’s Waterloo, with the St John’s Orchestra, conducted by John Lubbock, one of our Vice Presidents of the charity; and featuring Michael Howell’s phenomenal piano playing and compositions.

An attendee wrote “there was something important in the atmosphere as we listened”. Michael’s performance – and his personal journey as a neurodivergent musician – was a vivid reminder of why we do what we do. It was a fantastic evening, and I was lucky to meet so many of the 140 attendees, many of whom commented on the value of hearing from Leanne O’Keefe’s about how the charity supports music therapy research. This, alongside funding bursaries for trainees is our main mission, and we are extremely grateful to all, and especially to Chris Clarke, chair of the events committee and members; for organising the concert. This week I received a message from Michael Howell: “I would like to extend a sincere thanks for having me perform at your fundraising concert. It was indeed a pleasure, and I appreciate the love shown for my music”.
