This concert celebrates the launch of a chamber ensemble for the OSH, designed to build on our rich history and complement our existing programmes. OSJ Leader Jan Schmolck and Principal Howard Moody perform Bach and more in an event presented in association with the University of Oxford Music Faculty and made possible thanks to generous support from Ian and Caroline Laing.
The Orchestra of St John's is joined at its Dorchester Abbey home by pianist Jeneba Kanneh-Mason for her keenly-anticipated debut as OSJ Artist in Residence. Her first performance with the orchestra – Ravel last February – was electrifying and led immediately to an invitation to take on a more formal association. In this concert on Saturday 7 November she explores the brilliant jazz-influenced soundworld of Gershwin’s iconic Rhapsody in Blue, part of a programme that glories in the spirit of jazz and dance, with Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite and two of Ginastera’s exhilarating Spanish dances.
An evening that explores the very best of J S Bach's unique genius, including perhaps his most popular Brandenburg Concerto, No. 3, and two peerless Double Concertos, for two Violins, and for Violin and Oboe.
Ding, dong, merrily on high! OSJ Voices will raise the roof in this festive evening of wide-ranging music celebrating Christmas.
From the quiet beauty of the opening to the triumphant “Hallelujah” chorus, Handel’s much-loved masterpiece is filled with moments of drama, joy and sublime beauty. John Lubbock and the orchestra are joined by the OSJ Voices and a stellar line-up of soloists for a very special festive evening of live music.
