  • The Seasons, 7pm at SJE Arts

    Our final concert of the spring transports the listener through the turning of the year with Vivaldi’s timeless, Four Seasons. Vivaldi’s music will be enhanced by a world premiere of composer-in-residence Toby Young’s four motets on ‘The Seasons’. Performed on the 25th of June at SJE Arts Oxford, this concert also features J.S. Bach’s Chaconne for solo violin performed alongside the chorales on which it is based. This exciting new performance practice will give the listener a new insight into the mind of one of our greatest composers.

  • Tales from the Wilderness, Peter and The Wolf – 6pm at SJE Arts, Oxford

    Our celebrity narrator, the great Johnny Ball, children's TV presenter (Play School) and father of DJ Zoe Ball, guides us through ‘a symphonic fairy tale’ that explores the mysteries of folklore and the wilderness, shedding new light on well-known pieces by Prokofiev and Saint-Saens, timeless folk-songs by Canteloube, and Rachmaninov’s enchanting Vocalise.

  • Romantic Variations from the 19th-century Masters – 7pm at SJE Arts, Oxford

    Prize-winning pianist Rupert Egerton-Smith will perform Rachmaninov’s virtuosic rhapsody in this concert of baroque pieces reimagined by the great Romantic masters. Alongside Brahms’ take on Haydn and Beethoven’s version of Mozart’s famous duet from Don Giovanni, the concert features
    Dvorak’s Symphonic Variations, based on his own song, The Fiddler, originally written for Male Voice Choir.

    Walton’s Two pieces from Henry V frame a stirring concert which includes music from classical masters Haydn and Mozart as well as a performance of Elgar’s beautiful Serenade for Strings. Chris O’Neal, acknowledged as one of Britain’s most accomplished oboists, will be performing Mozart’s playful Oboe Concerto. Written as something of a party piece this was one of the most successful concertos of the time

    Get ready to voyage across the Atlantic with Dvorak’s New World Symphony, where Czech and American influences come together to create this much-loved piece filled with hope and optimism.
    Award-winning pianist Rupert Egerton-Smith returns to perform the spectacular Rachmaninov Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, alongside music from Stanford and Beethoven.
