• Brahms Double concerto, Beethoven Eroica – 7pm at Dorchester Abbey

    Beethoven’s mighty third symphony strikingly marked the end of the classical era. Tonight’s concert sees it perfectly paired with the final orchestral work of his worthy successor, Johannes Brahms. Soloists Charlie Lovell Jones and Yoanna Prodanova come to the stage alongside OSJ Voices for this evening of seminal works from the German masters. The concert starts with Agnus Dei, Barber's own arrangement for choir of his Adagio for strings.

    Our final concert this spring celebrates the sounds of strings and piano in all their richness. Internationally acclaimed British pianist Ashley Fripp joins the orchestra to perform equally wonderful works written centuries apart by Bach and Finzi. The strings of OSJ will also perform Finzi's Rom,ance, and Tchaikovsky’s heartfelt serenade, filling SJE Arts with music of beauty and tenderness to round off our season.

    We unite Mozart’s Piano Concerto in A Major with three other works inspired by the great master: Tchaikovsky’s affectionate orchestral tribute Mozartiana, Reger’s 1914 delightful theme and variations, and Venezuelan-born Hahn’s playful overture from his 1925 Mozart opera.
