Bridging Cultures in Schools Through Music

Beginning in January 2020, the Orchestra of St John’s will work with a multicultural group of year 12 students at the Oxford Spires Academy to collaboratively compose and perform a new multi-media orchestral composition, which interweaves the diverse and rich musical heritages of the students in order to generate intercultural artistic dialogue in the greater Oxford community and break down social and cultural barriers between young people in East Oxford. Alongside the OSA, the project will be conducted in collaboration with the Oxford Festival of the Arts and the University of Oxford Faculty of Music, with a final performance of the new work given as part of the OFA in July 2020.
