DESCRIPTION:DR BURNEY’S MUSICAL TOUR OF GERMANY: Dr Burney toured the princely courts of Germany in 1772\, meeting all the leading musicians of the time. Performances of works by these composers will be accompanied by readings from his fascinating journal recording his adventures. \nOne of the highlights was his visit to the court of Frederick the Great at Berlin: see Menzel’s depiction of this monarch playing the flute in a concert at Sans Souci. \nRobert and Caroline Jackson host an evening of music followed by dinner at New House\, Southmoor as a fundraiser for Orchestra of St John’s. \nHandel: ‘Flammende Rose\, Zierde der Erden’\nJ S Bach:  ‘Aus liebe will Mein hellen sterben’ from St Matthew Passion\nFrederick the Great:  Flute Sonata in b minor\nHoward Moody improvises in the spirit of Quantz \nShort interval. \nHandel:  ‘Piangerò la sorte mia’ from Giulio Cesare\nJS Bach Prelude and Fugue in  F sharp minor BWV 858 from Das Wohltempierierte Klavier\nCPE Bach:  ‘Quia respexit’ from the Magnificat\nCPE Bach: Hamburger Sonata in G major\nMozart: ‘Deh vieni\, non tardar’ from ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’ \nA two course dinner will be seved after the concert. \nHannah Davey soprano\nFiona Kelly flute\nHoward Moody harpsichord\nJohn Heley cello \nTickets @£75 available direct from Robert Jackson jacksonrv@hotmail.co.uk \nDownload application form here: New House music evening 5 September 2021
