"This year's Music in the Abbey saw four days of fantastic music in the beautiful setting of Dorchester Abbey.
The Fibonacci Sequence Chamber Ensemble began proceedings with a stunning performance of some best-loved chamber music. On Friday we were treated to an impressive concert by rising stars from the Birmingham Conservatoire who showed a depth of musicality beyond their years. Audience feedback was absolutely brilliant.
On Saturday OSJ brought the house down with a concert which culminated in a rendition of Beethoven's 7th Symphony the like of which many had not experienced!
Music in the Abbey wouldn't be complete without a performance by OSJ and OSJ Voices and on Sunday, in usual style, they held the audience spell-bound with a performance of Faure's Requiem." Audience Member, Esther Jackson

"To that end, and what an increasingly rare blessing this is, the orchestra plays on modern instruments ... an invigorating performance of Haydn’s forty-forth symphony, the Trauer. Vigorous, urgent from the outset, Lubbock was clearly in his element ... Once again, I found myself thinking what a fine feeling Lubbock had for Haydn’s style, for the transformation in subjectivity that had taken place since the Baroque."

Concert at King's Place, London, March 2010
"We were at Kings Place in London on Saturday for a concert by the Orchestra of St John's. The programme included 'Cantata No 51' by J S Bach, featuring the excellent young soprano Louise Wayman, and Haydn's 'Symphony No.44 - Trauer'. And it was very interesting to hear Handel's 'The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba' contrasted with Alec Roth's 'Departure of the Queen of Sheba'. Written in 1999, Roth's work uses material from the familiar Handel piece to create a beautifully moving wordless dialogue between the Queen (oboe) and King Solomon (cor anglais). It's a lovely, gently romantic piece of music and it was great to see the composer in the audience on Saturday. The small Orchestra of St John's (featuring only 19 players at this concert) were very impressive: tight, clear and precise, demonstrating how exciting classical music can be."

"We have supported the Dorchester Abbey Festival for a number of years now, but your concert on Sunday was absolutely the best ever - and one of the best I have ever been to in my 40 years of concert-going. Sally Matthews' rendition of the Four Last Songs was sublime, the OSJ Voices were on top form, and all of you played magnificently with real depth of feeling and passion. Thank you, thank you to everyone for a truly wonderful concert which will live long in my memory- and please come back again next year."
