Lynda Houghton - Double Bass
Lynda Houghton has been playing with the Orchestra of St. John's for over twenty years. She is much in demand with groups such as London Sinfonietta, Composers Ensemble and Matrix Ensemble and was the first woman bassist to play with the London Symphony Orchestra.
Lynda enjoys playing in a number of chamber orchestras, such as the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and the City of London Sinfonia where she is Principal Bass in both ensembles. She has regularly been invited to the Sangat Chamber Music festival in Mumbai, playing with Gil Shahan and Anthony Marwood, and most recently, at the invitation of the Gramophone Artist of the year Julia Fischer, in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival where she performed Schubert's Trout Quintet and Max Bruch's Octet. Her BBC recording of Schubert's Octet with the Britten Sinfonia was broadcast in October this year.
